The service wrapper can automatically restart the Apache Karaf container after an exception is detected. At the moment it does its best (but not it s best) to restart the service with the same argument. Many application run like a disease and are left untouched while the environment is changing.
The ServiceWrapper can support any service which provides an FPM/F2 entry point. Basically it will just restart this entry point when it detects an exception. Therefore an external service (e. g. apache tomcat or zookeeper) which already provides an FPM entry point is recommended. Please note that the shell functions (e. g. init.d) are not supported by the service wrapper.
In the case of the default implementation, it simply tries to restart Karaf. The wrapper is not very nice to use in production, and it is not fast to restart. Therefore the it is not enabled by default. For debugging and testing purposes, however, it can be of extreme use. When the ServiceWrapper is not enabled, you can still manually restart the service.
When an exception is detected, the ServiceWrapper simply tries to restart the service. It does not know much about the specific service, and it is up to the service to provide a way to start the service.
For the Pull Request, a point release is defined as any change to the software thatis a source-code-only addition to an existing binary of the software. After the point release is in distribution, the name of the new binary may then be changed in order to indicate that it is a point release.
The FreeSWITCH service's code has grown substantially over the years and so the number of hours of stacktrace debugging and searching around for the cause of a problem has grown somewhat proportionally. For that reason it is becoming increasingly difficult for any one person to multi-task a proper understanding of all the code in the FreeSWITCH project. d2c66b5586
