In the development of Breuer Text, we studied characteristics such as both general and specific typographic rules in the projective-approach to type design. The book contains the same features as the Breuer Text Condensed Bold as well as the capitals. The Medial Caps, with a height of 1.2 times that of the x-height, include prominent serifs and a characteristic triangle on the left-hand stand side. They were originally used in corporate book covers when Breuer Text was first introduced.
In our digital age, digital media are becoming increasingly pervasive, and the uses of audio, video and both branded and user-generated content are expanding. As a result, companies and their marketers are demanding that the content they create approaches a new culture of content creation and consumption. It is this set of challenges that gave rise to a new projective movement in type design.
First, the digital vernacular developed in the later part of the 1990s ushered in a new world of content and commerce, and the typographic choice for digital media changed dramatically. What were once considered text-only modes—email, chat rooms and online directories—became home to live video, online news and photos. Users demanded dynamic, mobile, shiny, fast-loading pages that made the Web the “lifestyle” experience of the late 1990s. Marketers and agencies demanded a universally recognizable, consistent typeface that would be as comfortable at a verbal critique of your e-commerce site as it would be in a dense tweet.
The digital type system consisted of a patchwork of fonts that were used in print materials, some of which were designed as block text, some of which were designed for display, and some of which were designed for manuscripts. These patchwork fonts, however, could not easily be aligned within a consistent visual environment, because the design, proportion, and layout of the print material differed from the design, proportion, and layout of the display. d2c66b5586
